As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned the power of the “investment piece.” Being young and living in the city, I obviously have to be thrifty with my money. I’ve strayed away from buying super trendy items and I’ve instead started focusing on pieces that are more special and have a bit more longevity in my closet and in my life. They’re few and far between, but on a recent trip to Anthropologie the clouds parted and the heavens opened up and I. Found. This. Dress.
It was one of those love-at-first-sight moments. The emerald, the lace, the pretty shape, the cutouts in back–it just all screamed “special occasion” and I knew I had to have it instantly (what is the single girl equivalent to a “bridal moment”? I think I had that).
This time I paired it with a pair of simple black heels and my white coat (I like to call this my Olivia Pope coat, thank you very much), and I’m planning on remixing it with tights and a cozier coat for a few holiday parties I have coming up. And just like that, my investment piece is already earning its keep.
